Emily,
Our background story is that we are a couple with two young children, originally from Sydney who have been working in Indonesia for some years. In anticipation of moving back to Sydney for our children’s education, we had started to look at houses on the internet. We were looking in the area from Turramurra/Wahroonga to Beecroft/Cheltenham and were after an older house. What attracted us to the property was that it was an old house with lots of character. We know buying an old house is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea but overwhelmingly everyone said how lovely this one was and well maintained.
We loved the high ceilings, elegant lead lights, and beautiful original cornices. My sister who is an interior designer said they were the most beautiful cornices she’s ever seen. We also liked the charming fireplaces (all used and working), especially one in the master bedroom. We also liked the layout of the house - family and friends who viewed it said it had an open hospitable feel and would be great for entertaining (something we enjoy and look forward to doing there). People also commented about the captivating entrance up the front steps, across the verandah and into the grand entrance hall. We also liked the big wide verandah and loved the garden with the big old trees. As well as this we loved the kid focused features - the tyre swing at the front, the kids play area, the garden shed cubby. And so many places to explore. We also liked many practical things too for example lots of storage space (for all the stuff we are bringing back!), lots of potential room to move (so to speak), and the central gas heating. We also liked the neighbourhood, conveniently located near to the train station and great local shops with a park (huge!) and bushland down the road. Great preschool and primary school within walking distance. Safe - talked to the local police and a friend talked to some neighbours. Established neighbourhood - our research showed that properties don’t turnover very quickly so people must like living there (and we should grab the opportunity to buy now!).
I am sure it is unusual to say the least, to spend close to $1 million on a property we haven’t viewed ourselves! Certainly the internet is what this day and age are all about. We had looked at many houses on the internet over some months and the photos and write-up on this property were definitely very eye-catching. We had trusted friends and family view it and got various and varied professional opinions.
For so many objective reasons such as though listed above, we decided this property you chose was just right for us.
